Careers in coops
Doing it differently...
Co-ops are more than a business. Co-ops believe in doing things differently. Their underlying values and principles make setting up or working for a co-operative a really rewarding and fulfilling experience.
From the outside, a co-op might look like any other business – it’s what happens inside that makes them different. A co-op’s culture will be built on a set of core values & principles:
Self-help
People working together to help each other and themselves.
Self-responsibility
Members playing their part to make the Society a success.
Democracy
All Members are equal, one Member, one vote.
Equality
Each member has equal rights and benefits.
Equity
Member are treated justly and fairly.
Solidarity
Members support each other and other co-operatives.
So what are the benefits of working for a co-operative?
- Working for a co-op means you can make a positive impact in your community and for your members
- You’re not just a colleague, you’re a Member. You’ll own a share of the co-op you’re working for – having a democratic say over decisions
- A co-op’s purpose goes beyond making profit. They are member owned and member led so profits are invested back into local communities
- Their principles and values will underpin what it’s like to work for a co-op, making them a great place to work and progress!
All of this means working for a co-op can be both personally and professionally rewarding.
How can I find out more?
Each co-op will have their own recruitment processes, reward and benefits packages and training and development solutions. Many will advertise in the traditional ways on their careers website or by using job boards. Check out your preferred co-op’s careers website to find out more. A little tip…….Co-op’s like candidates to demonstrate they’re aware of the co-operative difference and like it when you show how you too demonstrate some of their values and principles!
